Many framed artworks will be glazed or covered with a sheet of glass or acrylic. It may pick up dust over time, you can do the below for maintenance.
For Plexiglass and Conservation Clear Acrylic
- Use air to clear the surface, either by blowing across the pane or using a dryer set to its coolest, lowest setting – never heat plexiglass.
- Once excess grime has been removed, use an acrylic cleaner and a clean damp cleaning cloth. Apply only light pressure, rinse with clean water, or designed specifically for acrylic, and dry by blotting with a clean, damp cloth.
Recommend acrylic cleaner: Brillianize One Step Plastic Cleaner
Recommend cleaning cloth: Lint-free Microfiber Cloth
(if microfiber cloths need to be laundered, do not use fabric softener)
Recommend using of distilled water for all solutions, distilled water will not leave residues behind.
NEVER wipe plexiglass with dry cloth or brush over it with a bare, dry hand
NEVER use ammonia, abrasives, and aromatics on plexiglass
For (UV) Optium Museum Acrylic
- Use air to clear the surface, either by blowing across the pane or using a dryer set to its coolest, lowest setting – never heat Museum Acrylic.
- Spot-clean any fingerprints with the dry microfiber cloth by wiping in a soft and circular motion.
For all Tru Vue Glass
- Use a clean, soft, lint-free microfiber cloth to clean the glass
- Spray a small amount of ammonia-free cleaner or distilled water onto the cloth. Spraying on the cloth will prevent overspray.
- Press the cloth against the glass and clean in round, circular motions.
Recommend using of distilled water for all solutions, distilled water will not leave residues behind.
Above solution is only for the glazing but NOT the wooden frame. When cleaning the glazing, avoid touching the edges of the frame. As a rule, no cleaning solutions of any type should be used on frames. If frames are metal or wood, they can be lightly dusted with a dry, soft-bristled brush.
